Long-Term Care
Long-Term Care
Long-term care insurance allows you to maintain your independence and afford quality care
Long-term care (LTC) goes beyond medical care to include all the assistance you could need if you ever have a chronic illness or disability that leaves you unable to care for yourself for an extended period of time (longer than 90 days).
While older people generally require the most long-term care services, a young middle-ages person who has suffered a debilitating illness or accident may also require care. The first step when meeting regarding setting up a long-term care policy is to loop in an estate attorney and/or an eldercare agency to start preparing a strategy. We need new clients to bring in a list of assets and current income and we take it from there.

Frequently Asked Questions
If I am healthy, what planning should I do now?
If you're currently in good health, you want to make sure that you have the cornerstone pieces in place and that is the proper documents, the financial power of attorney, the living will and the medical power of attorney, critical pieces to have in place now that you're healthy. In addition, you might be able to look at certain long-term care insurance products that would help pay for care as the future unfolds.
When should I start planning for my long-term care needs?
Planning for long term care needs really comes as you start thinking about retirement. Many of us may not retire until we’re 70 years old but we do want to start entering the conversation in our mid-60s because we have good health typically. And so there’s going to be a number of insurance products that could be available to pay for long term care if we have that good health.
Am I already protected because I have my assets in a trust?
If your assets are in a revocable trust, you actually don’t have any protection because that type of trust is primarily used to avoid probate. And in fact, we have a recent Ohio Supreme Court decision that has made it an issue relative to the house being in a revocable trust and that is no longer considered exempt. Typically, the house would be exempt if there was the spouse and the community residing there. However, if it is in a revocable trust, it would lose that exemption.
Is there a charge for my initial consultation?
No. Your initial consultation is COMPLIMENTARY.
